East Coast Adventures | Australia Day 5-7

After the two day break on Fraser Island, we spend almost the whole next day in our Camper driving up the coast to Rockhampton. Arriving late in the afternoon, we set up on the camp site and took a stroll through town on the hunt for a place for dinner. Rockhampton is famous for it's meat, so we went for steaks. The food was good, though I can't remember the name of the restaurant.

Our next stop was Arlie Beach. From here we wanted to take a trip to the Whitsunday's. A group of beautiful green islands with even more beautiful beaches. We didn't book any trips in advance, since you can get last minute places on the tour ships on pretty much any camping ground in and around Arlie Beach. Upon arrival we headed straight towards the reception, browsed through several leaflets, found a trip we liked and were lucky enough that there were some places left for the next day.

Early the next morning we were picked up and taken to the harbor were we jumped on our boat with the rest of the group. The boat was beautiful and big enough that everyone could find a nice place to sit, while still not being too overwhelming at the same time. We sat sails and headed towards the first of the Whitsunday Islands.

When we reached the island, we were equipped with wet suits and snorkeling gear and then it was time to dive into the blue. There are small reefs all around the islands that leave you wondering just how beautiful the great barrier reef must be, that's waiting a few miles further up the coast.

We had the time of our lives swimming with little colorful fishes, diving through the crystal clear water and marveling at all the wonderful things to see.

Back on the boat it was right on to the next spot: a long white sand bank that we could swim to. Here we could snorkel some more or just enjoy the weather and the place and relax in the warm sand.

After all that swimming we were quite exhausted and hungry, so thankfully there were refreshments and lunch waiting for us on the boat when we came back. Filled with loads of snacks, sandwiches and fresh fruit. It was time to head back towards the mainland, but not before each grabbing a tiny bottle of wine or a can of beer and enjoying it on deck in the sun.

This was one of those day you know right away you'll never forget. If you ever are in the area definitely take a trip to the islands. There are countless offers and different boats you can choose from. We went with Derwent Hunter, because we liked the boat as it was a more classical one and the team was amazing. You can find them on facebook or just google them. If this is not for you and you're looking for something else, just keep looking, there probably is something for everyone. It was a great experience and I still love watching back on those photos.

The next posts are coming, be patient with me, I'm right in the middle of my exams at uni and life just keeps getting in the way. Hope you are having a lovely day and don't forget to smile.
